40 Days of Purpose
Aim of the Campaign 40 Days of Purpose is a powerful life-changing campaign for all the church. This campaign encourages every member of the congregation to participate in deepening their relationship with God through worship, small group studies and through daily personal readings. Over 2000 churches in the UK have completed and benefited from 40 Days of Purpose. The campaign consists of six weeks, sermon outlines, small group materials and a 40 Day personal study guide. Additional resources for all age groups are also available. As each person in your church reads through The Purpose Driven Life book, one chapter a day for 40 Days, listen to the sermons and attend the small groups, they will begin to understand ‘what on earth am I here for’!
We have changed the structure of the campaign so that churches can start at any time of the year, however most churches will plan to start from September 13th 2009 (autumn) and 14th February 2010 (Lent). Start date for autumn 2010 would be the 12th September.
QUOTES:
"I warmly and enthusiastically support '40 Days of Purpose' I have seen its effect on all sorts of churches, big and small, rural and urban, evangelical and catholic. It is simple, biblical, brilliant and life changing" Wallace Benn, Bishop of Lewes.
"The small groups went particularly well with lots of people joining that had not previously been part of a small group. Most of these people now want to continue to meet so we are now in the process of organising this. Over 50 members of our congregation took part in the small groups that ran over the course of the 40 Days campaign .... below are some of the comments that we received from those who took part:
"I found the 40 Days of Purpose gave me the opportunity to step back from my life and really take stock. It is very easy to rush from work to family and back again without without taking time out to think about our real purpose." "A brilliant fantastic read. You truly learn about yourself, where you are to go and to work towards God's purpose in your life." (All Saints Church, Higher Walton, Lancs)
"The course went well. 1 person became a Christian and was baptised. As a preacher, I found it quite hard condensing Rick Warren’s long sermon down to a more manageable length. I wonder whether a more condensed sermon could've been included (i.e. 10-15 minute version) The bible study was good but we found there was too much stuff. We could probably go back over it." (Bramley Baptist Church)
"The campaign went reasonably well, although there was some (anticipated) resistance to weekday small groups. Some I think still do not accept that these should be a priority for discipleship, but several permanent groups have now been established as a result of the campaign. Excellent though I feel it is, the material doesn't suit everyone - particularly those who are 'set in their ways’! I think an 'anglicanised' version would have been beneficial." (Salvation Army - Dunstable)
"As I mentioned to you the course appears to have been a great success, with about 500 church members taking part in the 40 Days study, and a resultant 100 new members joining new or existing Bible Study groups at All Saints." (All Saints Church, Crowborough)

Additional Information
1. If you run your campaign during the autumn period (start September) or Lent (start February) we can support it more easily with office backup and answers to queries by e-mail. This is not compulsory and we will willingly supply resources throughout the year.
2. Churches now have the option to customise their implementation of the campaign by choosing the resources they need. We would however strongly recommend that churches register and complete the full campaign for maximum impact. The power and impact of the Campaign is best captured by the principle of “multiple reinforcement.” This means that the themes of the Campaign are reinforced by layering the same message as it is repeated from several perspectives.
3. Churches can team up with other churches but should still register as separate centres to help us with co-ordination and support.
4. All church sizes can complete a campaign. We have had small churches, as low as fifteen members; successfully complete a ‘Small Church’ campaign
.
5. The five purposes taught during 40 Days are biblical and timeless and relate to all types of churches and denominations. The campaign materials are designed in such a way as to give you maximum flexibility to customize everything so that it fits into your context, while still enabling you to deliver a message that’s consistent with biblical principles. We’ve heard story after story from “traditional” churches whose members were skeptical about this campaign working in their setting, but who were enthusiastic about it by the end of the first weekend after they saw lives changed through the power of the biblical truths presented during 40 Days.
6. We have always been surprised at the effectiveness of this campaign in drawing in people from the fringe of the church. Although this Campaign was originally designed as a discipleship tool for people who are already Christians, we discovered - almost by accident - that it has a tremendous power to woo and transform pre-Christians! By asking, during the opening week, “What on Earth Am I Here For?” your church has a powerful opportunity to draw in the unchurched who feel something is missing in their lives.
40 Days of Community
Aim of the Campaign Your congregation will learn to live out God’s five purposes in community with other believers and encourage them to reach outside the four walls of the church to serve in their local community. By the end of 40 Days of Community, your congregation will:
1. Place a greater value on relationships within your church and with the community
2. Have a solid commitment to the church and each member as well as to their small groups
3. Better understand where they belong within the vision and mission of your church
4. Have extended its influence in your community through individual and group outreach projects.
We have changed the structure of the campaign so that churches can start at any time of the year, however most churches will plan to start from September 13th 2009 (autumn) and 14th February 2010 (Lent). Start date for autumn 2010 would be the 12th September.
Quotes:
"Did the campaign have an impact - undoubtedly it did. It has challenged a number of small groups to be involved in outreach or social action of some kind, we have more people sending cards and letters of encouragement - I have had a good few myself and people have felt the challenge to be a more loving community in general………….. I also think you have to be flexible in the way you use the material, not all is applicable to UK. Over all I thoroughly recommend the campaign and it is real value for money and creates real opportunities for change if people are open to the Holy Spirit." (Woodhill Evangelical Church)
"I believe as a church fellowship through 40 days of community we have grown closer together in unity and in fellowship and friendship. We have learned a lot and been challenged. The small group we started specifically for those who could not make the Sunday evenings has continued after we finished the DVD series by Rick. As a project we took part in a hope weekend which was city wide but local "Hope 4 Rumney". Litter picking, car washing, OAP gardens, barbecue in the park and a free fun day on the Bank Holiday. The whole weekend was a great success and a real sense of God favour and grace upon it. Reaching out together to our community I witnessed a great unity amongst us, all working together in unity and purpose. I can't say it was all down to the course/campaign but it certainly was a help." (Rumney Gospel Chapel)

Additional Information
40 Days of Community has several features that set it apart from 40 Days of Purpose.
We are offering age-appropriate materials for every member of the family, from toddler to senior adults. Those churches that incorporated teenagers and children into their 40 Days of Purpose campaign already know the power of everyone in the family learning about the same biblical truths together. For the Community Campaign, we are recommending that your Youth and Children’s leaders have a role on your Campaign Team.
Missions Project: There is an idea that is at the heart of this Community Campaign – the Local Missions Project. This outreach project is the vehicle that will move the church outside of its four walls, and into the harvest field of a world that is in desperate need of the love of Jesus Christ. Your Missions Project Team will identify local outreach and mission opportunities for your small groups to do together. This might be a single church project where all the groups choose a component of the project to perform or a collection of projects that each group does independently. Tackle one of the major problems in your community, and with God’s help you can make a difference!
Better Together - Workbook: A new innovation for this campaign is the combining of three items – the daily devotional book, the daily journal, and the weekly small group study guide – into one soft-bound book that will be the campaign companion for everyone in your church.
Host Homes: Because this is a Community campaign, it is natural to make the Host Home strategy the only strategy for launching groups for this campaign. In addition, the local mission’s project requires small groups to carry it out. The adage, “If you’re not in a small group, you’re not in the campaign” is all the more true of the 40 Days of Community campaign.
The Kick-Off is another great message from Rick Warren and the Saddleback musicians, but now there is more flexibility built into the event.
40 Days of Building Relationships
Aim of the Campaign This new campaign called ‘Building Relationships’ with God’s Love has been revised and adapted from the original teaching by Rick Warren and his team so that UK churches can easily use this resource. The campaign is based on 1 Corinthians 13 and looks at applying God's love into our relationships, church, home and all personal situations. We have spent many months ensuring that our UK culture is carefully considered in the presentation of these materials and that any 'Americanisms’ that may cause confusion have been removed. In addition the six weeks small group DVD teaching will be taught by Rev David Beer and the Sunday School and youth resources have been compiled by a group of UK youth leaders. We are confident that this resource will be suitable for a wide range of church sizes and denominations in the UK.
QUOTES:
"As a church, we found the course very encouraging. It united us in a common purpose especially by following the same readings. Members not previously engaged with small groups joined in and some contributed to discussions for the first time." (Bowthorpe Church)
"The campaign went excellently. Study questions led naturally to discussion. Didn't feel that getting a response was difficult. Studies have spawned some new small groups. Overall a very positive experience. I would be happy to repeat the exercise (with different subject matter) at a later stage." (Salvation Army, Norwich)
"The campaign went very well. Almost all our congregation used the daily devotions. The sermons were very well received and impacted on people's lives. One particular problem of unforgiveness between church members was very satisfactorily resolved. The group studies were very well received also and it helped that the DVD was by an Englishman. Generally the campaign was considered to be even better than the previous 2 campaigns that we took part in." (Harston Baptist Church)
"The 40 Days was excellent. We had 3 groups before we started the buildup. On the first Sunday we had formed 10 Community Groups. Praise God. The course itself was really well received and I had many positive feedbacks from my group leaders. The course was excellent and the DVD was great." (Chelmsford Community Church)
"The series went well. Sunday morning teaching was appreciated by all. We were able to start 2 new small groups on the back of it. The 2 extra groups will be meeting in the future but they are not going to be every week. The sermon notes were excellent. The PowerPoint bland and I jazzed them up a bit where I could. The video clips also were disappointing, again too American as in the past, also too long for the main service." (Tyndale Baptist Church)
"The only challenge we had was some people reading the first couple of days and thinking it was too simple for them. They were persuaded to join in and I had no further negative come back. In fact it was so successful we will probably do 40 Days of Community but probably not until September 2010." (St. Mary's Church, Eversley)
"The best thing, from my perspective as pastor, was that it enabled us to launch a new home group, which looks both strong - numerically and healthy - relationally. The Sundays went well and discussions in the groups were good. A couple of groups felt that some questions were a bit 'closed' and didn't invite discussion, but this was a minor issue overall." (Woodbridge Quay Church)
Building Relationships Campaign
A very positive 'yes' has come back from the 46 churches who have completed the first English Purpose Driven campaign The ‘ 40 Days of Building Relationships with God’s Love ‘ campaign was originally presented by Rick Warren at Saddleback Church California and then rewritten and presented in Germany . David Beer and Peter Simpson of Purpose Driven UK then rewrote the campaign with UK culture in mind. David Beer also rewrote and presented the talks for the small group DVD. The campaign covers 40 Days and is suitable for all age groups. A small group and daily reading book links into a preaching series and small group discussion materials. The main theme of the campaign is 'God’s Love’ and applies the biblical teaching of love into our church and community life and daily relationships. A powerful study and application which will help all Christians in their walk of discipleship and ministry.

We have two courses: ‘Celebrate Recovery’ and ‘Life Hurts God Heals’
Celebrate Recovery is a Christ centred recovery programme based on the Beatitudes. It is currently being used in over 3500 churches internationally. By applying the biblical truths found in scripture Celebrate Recovery has helped people to find release from addictions, behaviour problems, habits and hang-ups. The course is normally held over one year ( typically one day a week) and requires a high level of commitment from the leaders and participants
Life Hurts God Heals is a simplified version covering 13 weeks. This course can also be a good introduction to the ‘Celebrate Recovery’ approach to recovery and would also be useful in training leaders for the Celebrate Recovery course.
